Welcome to Year 1.
Our class teachers this year are Mrs Andrews and Miss McAllister. We are supported by Miss Muckles. We are looking forward to this academic year and have some information for you.
- P.E will be on a Tuesday morning. The children will need a suitable kit for either indoor or outdoor P.E depending on the weather. Unfortunately we do not have any spare P.E kits so parents may be phoned to bring one in.
- Homework and spellings will be given out every Friday and must be returned the following Wednesday. Homework will consist of one piece of English, one piece of maths and spellings. Spelling tests will be on a Friday. Please note: any homework returned after Wednesday will not be marked.
- Reading books are to be brought in every day and there must be a signature from an adult in the reading diary when they have completed the book.
- ICT will be on a Friday afternoon.
The Autumn Term 1
*In Maths we will be learning place value of numbers to 10. We will be practising our addition and subtraction within 10.
*In English we will be reading stories with predictable phrases. We will be writing our own stories. We will also be writing a recount based on a school visit.
*In RE we will be learning about Harvest – what it is, why we celebrate it and how food is harvested.
*In Geography we have started to learn about mapping; introducing children to maps and globes, locating countries on a map and even trying to draw some of our own!

*In ICT we will be practising our computer skills. Simple steps such as opening and closing programmes, typing into a word document, changing text colour and font size as well as saving our work before moving onto more difficult programmes and concepts such as browsing, copying and pasting.
*In P.E we are practising our throwing and catching skills.
In Science we are learning about seasonal changes and also animals including humans.
Below are a list of words children should know at the end of year 1. Please practise them with your child/children.
