Home reading books will be changed by the children now they are in Key Stage 2. The children need to read at least three times each week according to school policy. Reading books are to be brought to school each day and if the child can show the teacher a signed comment such as ‘New book please’ then they will be allowed to get the next reading book. The main focus for home reading should be their reading stage book.
The children will also be accessing accelerated library books. They will be given a reading age after a reading test from this scheme and then told which decimal point library books they can choose from. Library books can be taken home if they wish to but must be brought into school daily. Each morning from 8.45 until 8.55 the children will read from their library book which is kept in their tray. Once they have finished the book they can take a quiz before choosing the next library book. The scheme generates stickers and certificates according to the score after each quiz. If a child needs to take a quiz but is unable to get to school for the doors opening at 8.45, they will also have the opportunity to quiz in their weekly ICT lesson. The children get their register mark and then ask to quiz in the ICT suite before lessons begin at 9am. We will carefully introduce this scheme in a couple of weeks once the children are settled.
The children can bring in fresh drinking water to access during the day.
Each night we are available to chat about any issues or concerns as we dismiss the class. Thank you for your understanding.
